Toyota Wins In Its 100th GP In WEC

In a very interesting second round, Toyota managed to secure their second win of the season with the new Hyper-cars. The preseason test in SPA raised many eyebrows as we saw these "new" hyper-cars perform so much worse than the previous year LMP1, and even LMP2. The machines brought to this new season replace the LMP or prototypes which have superior downforce, and overall performance.

For the race opener, WEC organizers had to even purposefully slowed down the LMP2 cars so that the hyper-cars could stay on top, theoretically.

Despite all of these technicalities, Sebastian Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Kazuki Nakajima, all drivers for the number 8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid managed to win their second consecutive race. The race was a bit of a give and go with Alpine, as both teams switched the lead every time one stopped in the pits. A brief moment of confusion had the other Toyota hyper-car up front before given team orders to yield the place back to the number 8.

As the season will progress, we will see the organizers constantly adjusting the Balance of Performance of these cars, to ensure close racing. However Alpine seems to have a mileage deficit compared to the hybrid Toyota hyper-cars.
