Elden Ring's official Twitter account announced that they are currently working on developing an expansion. The expansion is called Shadow of the Erdtree.

The tweet did not specify any release date or window for the DLC; nor did they mention anything about its price, or if it is going to be free.

Elden Ring was released on all platforms, except the Nintendo Switch on February 23 of 2022. It has been over a year since the game's release and we finally got the news that a DLC is currently under development.

Perhaps the game will be sold in conjunction with the expansion in a 'Game of the Year' format, which is something the publisher has done before.

From Software's last game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice did not receive any kind of DLC, however, this game was published by Activision, and From Software limited to mainly development.

Surprisingly, Sekiro is a very solid game with great mechanics and gameplay. It was a surprise that we did not get any further content to expand the world of Ashina. The game sold over 5 million copies. Elden Ring on the other hand, has sold about 20 million.

Perhaps the decision to work on an expansion for Elden Ring relies heavily on the number of copies the game has sold.

The game's creator, Hidetaka Miyazaki, mentioned during a Q&A at the 2022 PlayStation Partner Awards that he was surprised by the game's success.

What are your thoughts on the announcement? What kind of expansion are you expecting?

Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Gaming.
