3 Things We Learned From the 2024 British GP

It was certainly one of the most exciting races of the season. With Hamilton's win, five different drivers have claimed top spot this season.

The 2024 British Grand Prix had its share of emotions and excitement. McLaren is in its best shape in years, Red Bull has lost some of its advantage, and Hamilton got his first win in years. Here are three things we learned from the British GP.

1. Lewis Hamilton proved to us his Ferrari move will not be just for shows.

Hamilton made quite a statement when he lifted the first-place trophy at the British Grand Prix. With a noticeably 'inferior' car, the British driver managed to secure a win in his homeland. It was emotional to see Lewis shed tears of relief and accomplishment when he celebrated his win.

Reading between the lines, you can notice that Lewis Hamilton is still in top shape, and that his move to Ferrari is not only to make the team more competitive, but to aim for wins, and why not, the championship.

Ferrari has secured a thoroughbred winner that will put the whole organization in a fierce, competitive mode. It's not just for shows, and certainly, Leclerc is not going to be, by default, the number one driver of the team. He is going to have to fight a multiple-time world champion.

This kind of healthy competition is what Ferrari truly needs. It seems that they have lost that edge that has historically made the team from Maranello fierce and revered. With the rumor of Adrian Newey's future in red, perhaps Ferrari will claim what the tifosi have been owed for years: a championship.

2. McLaren is in top shape, despite its strategic struggles.

Lando Norris managed to secure the last step of the podium, with Verstappen and Hamilton in second and first respectively. McLaren has gained so much ground compared to the beginning of the season and it's just seven points behind Ferrari in the 'best-of-the-rest' championship.

McLaren has secured a win and several podiums this season with Lando Norris, who is consolidating himself as a top F1 driver, capable of filling the shoes of a McLaren number one driver. He is currently second in the Drivers' Championship

Piastri has also had a couple of podium finishes.

At the moment, McLaren's form seems to be in better form than Ferrari. It is just a matter of time before they take second place in the Constructors' Championship.

3. Ferrari is yet again in the dreaded limbo.

Ever since Leclerc's win at Monaco, Ferrari's form has been dreadful, to say the least. A mixture of mechanical issues, poor strategy and an inconsistent car, have relegated Ferrari behind McLaren and Mercedes in terms of pace.

The British Grand Prix was yet another example where Leclerc and Sainz are not able to fully push the limits of the car and have to sit around coasting, unable to challenge McLaren or Mercedes. The prancing horse is slowly losing its second-place constructors' gap to McLaren and has seen Lando Norris climb second in the Drivers's Championship.

Ferrari is still carrying the issues from last year's championship and was not able to fully sort them out. To add to this crisis, its chassis Technical Director, Enrico Cardile presented his resignation, effective immediate, on Monday, July 8.

The position is unmanned, but Team Director Fred Vasseur will oversee it. It is uncertain if this position will be filled during the current season, or if Ferrari is waiting to make a master move and secure the services of Adrian Newey, who has not disclosed his future.
